Cookier of the week interview 29/04/2013
1. Where are you located? Perth, Western Australia
2. How long have you been a Cookier? 4 years, give or take
3. Did anyone inspire you? My sister lent me her Peggy Porschen book and it just grew from there... I stumbled across Sweetopia whilst trying to find answers also.
4. Best Tip that you have? Patience and remember what works for another cookier, doesn't necessarily work for another, so be kind to yourself. In the beginning I was all about every tiny detail being perfect... I learned to love the imperfections of what we do :)
5. Do you ship your cookies Y/N? Yes, I ship to Australia & NZ. International is really a bit much still and then you have to deal with the different customs specs of each country.
6. What is your fav cookie design or style? I am actually a really big fan of 'the simpler the better' cookies. I think they have a lot of class and they still have the same delicious flavour and texture as something more detailed. If it's simple, yet done well, then it's a big winner in my books!
7. What is your fav cookie to make? I hands down love the combination of Gingerbread with Royal Icing because I think the combo is sooooo good together and honestly don't like them too sweet! But I prefer working with Vanilla Bean cookies because the dough holds it's edges nicely and looks beautiful in photos too.
8. Do you do anything else in your cookie biz? No, not at present. I'm not currently taking as many orders as usual.
9. Fav time of year & why? Christmas!!!!!! I love it. Everything about it. It's the only time of year that I actually want to eat one of my cookies which I suppose is a really good thing! I think they feel particularly special at Christmas time.
10. Biggest seller? Um, these days probably character cookies. But Christmas is a big one for me.
11. First pick - Royal Icing or Fondant? ROYAL ICING all the way!!!!!!!
12. First pick - Chocolate or Vanilla? Oh, definitely Vanilla!!
13. Promo yourself in 50 words or less...
Great for Wedding/Engagement Bombonneire, place cards, Birthday party favours for children & adults alike, Baby Showers & Christenings, New Baby gifts, Dessert Tables and Seasonal cookies for Christmas, Easter, Valentines & Halloween! And now - Corporate cookies too!
